A diocese é chefiada pelo Bispo de Bristol e a sede episcopal está localizada na Catedral da Santíssima Trindade, comumente conhecida como Catedral de Bristol .
História
Até a Reforma , Bristol fazia parte da diocese medieval de Worcester . Sob a Lei dos Bispos Sufragâneas de 1534 , Henry Holbeach foi nomeado o único bispo sufragâneo de Bristol em 1538 e auxiliou o Bispo de Worcester na supervisão da diocese medieval. Quase dois anos depois, Bristol tornou-se parte da recém-formada Diocese de Gloucester em 1541. No ano seguinte, a Diocese de Bristol foi estabelecida em 4 de junho de 1542 e consistia na cidade de Bristol junto com o condado de Dorset . A Diocese de Bristol continuou até 5 de outubro de 1836, quando Dorset foi anexada à Diocese de Salisbury e o restante, a cidade de Bristol, fazia parte da Diocese de Gloucester e Bristol. Depois de sessenta anos, a Diocese de Bristol foi "reconstituída" em 9 de julho de 1897, mas com limites diferentes.
