References error[edit]

This template includes <ref>...</ref> tags; since there is usually no <references /> tag after it, the error Cite error: <ref> tags exist, but no <references /> tag was found is shown.

One way to fix this would be to add {{reflist}} at the end of the template so the reference shows.

Where would you put something like this on a railroad line template? ----DanTD (talk) 16:03, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Concerned editors will have to decide how to fix this; I am responding to a request for help from Help talk:Cite errors. Possible fixes:
  • Remove the reference.
  • Ensure the template is always placed before the <references /> tag or {{reflist}}; this would violate the layout guidelines
  • Change the <ref> to <ref group=note> and add {{reflist|group=note}} at the bottom of the template.
If the reference is to be useful, you need to show it at some point. --—— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 17:14, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I just tried that, and it didn't work. Meanwhile, somebody else put an empty reference chapter on Orlando (Amtrak station), and that didn't work either. ----DanTD (talk) 20:32, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Your edit to the template seems to have fixed it. --—— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 22:17, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What a surprise, you're right. I suppose it simply took some time to take effect. ----DanTD (talk) 04:56, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The reason was that you need to null-edit an article for a change in a template to take effect. Anyway, please see Help talk:Cite errors where I will address the problem of broken refs in templates in general. Debresser (talk) 21:57, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Improved diagram"[edit]

What I've done is show:

  • Whether or not the station has disabled access;
  • Indicate almost all water crossings;
  • Indicate whether the line/station is elevated, at-grade, or in a tunnel;
  • Indicate whether a border is crossed over water on a bridge, through a tunnel, or at-grade (no water), and;
  • Show connecting services stations at stations, no matter how minor they may be.

If you think that I have gone a little overboard on the bridges, I sympathize with you! Much time has gone into this makeover for the diagram. I'm not sure if I will continue to improve it further, but for now, I am publishing it here.
