Harold John Cook FRCP (nascido em 1952) é John F. Nickoll Professor de História na Brown University e foi Diretor do Wellcome Trust Centre para a História da Medicina na University College de Londres (UCL) de 2000 a 2009, e foi a Rainha Guilhermina Professor visitante de história na Columbia University em Nova York durante o ano acadêmico de 2007-2008.
O interesse de pesquisa do Prof. Cook inclui uma série de projetos relacionados sobre as maneiras pelas quais o conhecimento médico era trocado entre locais distantes. De maneira mais geral, ele está interessado nas maneiras pelas quais os desafios e oportunidades para o campo da história da medicina estão se desdobrando no contexto dos desenvolvimentos recentes na história global.
Cook é co-editor da revista Medical History , atua em vários conselhos consultivos e órgãos profissionais e foi eleito para uma bolsa honorária do Royal College of Physicians .

Em Matters of Exchange (2007), Cook argumenta que o envolvimento no comércio internacional mudou o pensamento dos holandeses e daqueles com quem eles entraram em contato. Ele sugere que a preferência por informações precisas que acompanhou a ascensão do comércio também lançou as bases para a ascensão da ciência globalmente. O livro documenta os desenvolvimentos na medicina e na história natural foram aspectos fundamentais desta nova ciência. Foi vice-campeão do Prêmio Cundill de 2008 .
